Learn Better, Faster, and Longer with Cornell

One of the best ways to commit something to memory is to practice it or to rehearse every day, even if just for 10 minutes.

This frequent and daily review/practice strengthens the synapses (connections) in our brains.

So, if you are a student who struggles with remembering information for a test, then you should seriously consider taking notes using the Cornell System.

The Cornell System has you divide your notebook page into three sections: two columns and a bottom section for a summary.

Why It Works

During class, the right way to take Cornell notes is to take notes in the right column.

After class, review those notes and extract ideas, in phrases or questions, and even key terms, that the details explain or support.

This is review #1.

Then, once you are done, you will need to review the entire page to determine what is most important.

This is review #2.

Once you determine what is most important, you will write at least a five sentence summary about those key ideas, in your own words.

While you are doing this, you are reciting these in your head and writing in such a way that the paragraph has a proper flow/structure.

This is review #3.

What does this mean?

In ONE time you take notes in this way, you will have reviewed the class content THREE times.

Thus, you are strengthening those synapses, making them stronger and easier to retrieve during a test or a quiz.

The Result? Better Learning and Better Test Grades

Taking notes using the Cornell style allows you to revisit course material multiple times in ONE set of notes.

Do this for each class period and you will SAVE TIME by not having to study so much.

Why?

Because you already gave your notes time by engaging in frequent reviews!

If you simply take notes as usual, perhaps an outline that isn't well structured, and just reread them a week before your exam, you won't remember much.

Taking notes in THIS way allows you to spend more time on the material, and when you review them every day, you avoid cramming.

Cramming is a crappy way to study.

Taking Cornell notes for each class period eliminates time wasting habits of taking unstructured notes and cramming.

Want to spend LESS time studying and get HIGHER GRADES?
